At a recent estate sale I was thrilled to find these three Worcester dessert comports.... 1850s in absolutely wonderful condition. The set consists of two smaller comports, each 8 7/8 inches diameter and 6 1/4" high; the larger central comport is oval and is 12" wide x 7 tall. Each piece is superbly hand painted with floral specimens and are elaborately gilt decorated around borders and pedestal stems. And SO RARE to find a matching trio in such outstandingly fine condition!
The two smaller comports are each marked with incised "Grainger - Worcester" impressions on the undersides of the plates.... These marks are difficult to photograph... But are clearly present, the central comport is not marked. We do not'OWN' such items... But are merely blessed'current custodians'.....
To be the caretaker of such rare and quality porcelains... That have survived some 175 years in undamaged / unworn condition is indeed an honor and responsibility. I look forward to passing these along to the'next custodian' that will contribute to their long existence as symbols of our creativity and humanity!
