Set 12 Royal Worcester Spaulding of Chicago Silhouette 9 Luncheon Plates c. Up for your consideration is a very scarce set of 12 Royal Worcester, made for Spaulding of Chicago, Luncheon plates with the rare Silhouette design. They measure just a touch under 9 across. Dating to 1918, they have a neo-Georgian motif that is made up of stylized floral swags, black linework, and evenly spaced roses. There is a central medallion at the top center that depicts a young man with a crown of laurel leaves.
Perhaps, given the date, a reference to the heroes of WWI. Elegant and simple, the pattern is made up of a black linework transfer, with hand-applied color over it. The silhouette is beautifully rendered. The rim is wide, nearly 1.75.
The porcelain is a rich ivory-cream color. No nicks, dings, fleabites and the pattern is raised and super strong throughout all the plates.
