HISTORY/MARKS: Back in 1751, Dr. John Wall, a surgeon, William Davis, an apothecary, and a group of 13 local businessmen established a porcelain factory. In Worcester in 1756 Robert Hancock was the first man to apply transferring of prints onto porcelain. By 1789 the quality of Worcester Porcelain earned the company the prestigious "Royal Warrant" as Manufacturers to their Majesties after a visit from George III; thus the word "Royal" was added to the name. After centuries in the porcelain business, surviving wars and depressions, Royal Worcester experienced a number of ownership changes after the 1980's.The final result being the cessation of business and the sale of the trade names and intellectual property in 2009 to Portmeirion Potteries plc. The Royal Worcester England mark on these is cited by Geoffrey A.
The date cipher below the mark on the plate is "Open Square" which was used in 1928. This makes the production year of 1928.
