For sale is a stunning and gorgeous pair of antique Royal Worcester cabinet plates dating from 1880. They are exquisitely hand painted with floral bouquet borders, golden sprigs, and a hovering butterfly and dragonfly. The scenes are surrounded by b eautiful Sèvres style complimentary pink and blue borders and delicate gold gilding circles the rims along with hand-applied, raised gold beading. Both plates are stamped with the purple Royal Worcester mark and a "R" underneath the circle - the date code for 1880. Both are also marked TR (possibly the painter's initials) and B910 in small letters along the base.
1 1/16 Deep base to rim. No chips or cracks to either plate. On both plates there is overall light and very even crazing on both sides from age which can be seen in the close-up photos. When held at an angle and in raking light there is very faint rainbow effect around the edges of the hand painting and white ground glaze area which is also due to age (see photo #6). There are 2 tiny white specks in the blue ground surface (photo #4) and one tiny area on the left side of the pink plate's floral border (photo #8) where the paint did not cover the background - these specks are not chips to the glaze.
Overall the nearly 140 year old plates are in beautiful, very well-cared for condition. Carefully stored in a smoke and pet-free home. If you have any questions please feel free to ask!
